Index of a list, with user input, to search another list of Strings

0

My goal is to take user input and use this to search a list for that input's position via index:

list1 = ['mario', 'batman', 'sonic']

list2 = ['luigi', 'robin', 'tails']

Something simple like this:

n = input("select a character from list1")

Then we need a numerical value to search list2 for our character's sidekick, so something like this is what I presumed would work:

c = (list1.index(n))

Then print the results:

print(list2[c])

However, through trial and error, this proved ineffective. Note the actual code I've got going so far is a lot larger than this just due to the fact these lists are much larger. The full snippet will be gladly provided if needed to help further. Otherwise I would have just made a few if statements to make this easier.
