ECS task memory vs container memory (Java App)

trying to understand differences in container memory vs task memory. I understand that task memory limits available memory for all containers inside task. But it allows not to set container memory if task memory parameter set.



From what i see




  1. If Task limit set only, then docker shows limit as full instance memory.

  2. If Container set limit docker shows limit as set to container.


Does ecs agent control limits in 1 case?



And another thing, cause JVM(Java11) in docker checks cgroup memory to calculate available memory as i understand in first case JVM will check available memory and gets instance size even if in reality it is far less, am i right? And then it is more likely to have problem with GC and memory allocation. Or am i missed something?



Cause later had pretty similar problem with Java8, trying to understand differences to avoid problems in future, and have not got answers from documentation.
