ECS task memory vs container memory (Java App)

trying to understand differences in container memory vs task memory. I understand that task memory limits available memory for all containers inside task. But it allows not to set container memory if task memory parameter set.
From what i see
- If Task limit set only, then docker shows limit as full instance memory.
- If Container set limit docker shows limit as set to container.
Does ecs agent control limits in 1 case?
And another thing, cause JVM(Java11) in docker checks cgroup memory to calculate available memory as i understand in first case JVM will check available memory and gets instance size even if in reality it is far less, am i right? And then it is more likely to have problem with GC and memory allocation. Or am i missed something?
Cause later had pretty similar problem with Java8, trying to understand differences to avoid problems in future, and have not got answers from documentation.
