How to achieve display of embedded PDF files in WebView?
.everyoneloves__top-leaderboard:empty,.everyoneloves__mid-leaderboard:empty,.everyoneloves__bot-mid-leaderboard:empty{ height:90px;width:728px;box-sizing:border-box;

I have a simple Android client for my website based on WebView .
My goal is to display, or at least download PDF files located on the page.
The problem is that these PDF files are embedded(inside the embed tag), and WebView doesn't display them. Example of embedded PDF:
<embed class="my-class" type="application/pdf" src="data:application/pdf;base64,[base64string]">
, where [base64string]
is base64 representation of PDF file.
However, the Chrome browser (hereinafter means version for Android) understands embedded PDF files and offers to open them. As far as I know, Chrome and WebView have a common code base, so I think it's possible to achieve the same behavior in my app.
In order to make sure that Webview has a problem with embed PDF, it's enough to open any site containing such content, for example. Most likely you will see in the place of the PDF file just a white empty frame with(maybe without) text like Can't load plugin
. If you click on this frame, nothing will happen. As I understand it, WebView simply doesn't know how to work with such objects.

Here things, I've already done, and it didn't work:
I tried to operate with different settings of WebView:
webV.settings.javaScriptEnabled = true
webV.settings.allowFileAccess = true
webV.settings.pluginState = WebSettings.PluginState.ON
webV.settings.domStorageEnabled = true
webV.settings.setAppCacheEnabled (true)
webV.settings.javaScriptCanOpenWindowsAutomatically = true
webV.settings.mediaPlaybackRequiresUserGesture = true
webV.setLayerType (View.LAYER_TYPE_HARDWARE, null)
I tried to intercept the embedded file download with WebChromeClient and WebViewClient methods, but without success. The embed resource doesn't load, so there are no events. And errors too.
I tried Chrome Custom Tabs, they understand embedded PDF, but unfortunately they ain't suitable for use in my project.
Is there any possibility to achieve understanding of embedded pdf files by WebView?
