Correlation distance

I'm computing the correlation distance with Matlab (https://de.mathworks.com/help/stats/pdist2.html#d120e570586). The purpose is to calculate the distance between two histograms. My source says, that the histograms have to be normalized to [0,1] to get distance values also from [0,1] where 1 is perfect correlation and 0 is the smallest value.
But when I calculate this correlation distance, I also get values which are bigger than 1. What am I doing wrong?
