Converting key, value pairs in a JSON column into their own separate columns
I have a table that has just two columns, a uuid
column and a json_data
column which contains JSON. So the table looks like this...
uuid json
uuid1 {'0.25': '1.0', '0.5': '2.0'}
uuid2 {'0.25': '4.0', '0.5': '8.0'}
My desired output is to have each of these json keys as it's own column, in other words, a wide format. I can get the table into a long format by using the json_each
function
SELECT uuid, json_each(json) AS key_values
FROM mytable;
which returns
uuid key_values
uuid1 ('0.25', '1.0')
uuid1 ('0.5', '2.0')
uuid2 ('0.25', '4.0')
uuid2 ('0.5', '8.0')
But what I would ideally like is...
uuid 0.25 0.5
uuid1 1.0 2.0
uuid2 4.0 8.0
json postgresql

what you need is a dynamic pivot using the output of key value pairs fromjson_each
. It isn't straightforward, see stackoverflow.com/a/36831103/7998591
