Why does my WiFi need a manual IP configuration?

I have got a new broadband internet connection (ADSL). When I connect to the wifi using the right credentials, it says 'Failed to obtain IP Address'. I need to set properties of this particular broadband in my mobile / laptop / tv with manual ip configuration and use standard IP range (IP:192.168.0.***, Gateway:192.168.0.1, DNS: 8.8.8.8 etc.) Its working fine in this way. But I am not sure why I need to do this. I don't need to do this setting for other wifis like office wifi, friend's wifi. Its only my home broadband which needs it.
I am not sure if this is the right forum to ask this question.
